Motsunabe もつ鍋

By far the most disgusting thing I have eaten in my life - this is "motsunabe" or "もつ鍋". もつ is Japanese for "internal organs", I gather. The motsu in question is kobe beef offal. I ordered this for my last night in Tokyo, from an underground bar in Shinjuku. They bring you the pot with everything still raw in the pot. You let this simmer for 7 minutes or so and then it's ready to go. I had the garlic or "ninniku" flavoured broth. The intestine tasted like the fat around a sirloin steak. The rest of the pot was mostly veggies and soup. It was delicious, especially with a Kirin beer (or "bi-ru").
